| It took a while to nail this bird, as it was slightly smaller than all of the accompanying Glaucous Gulls, which themselves were thought to be smaller than those that typically turn up in the UK. It was also slim, not really black, with long wings and a longish bill. however, the combination of a dark eye, all white tip to P10 and pink legs meant it could only be a Greater Black-backed Gull. Whether this is typical of Svalbard Greater Black-backs needs further observation.
