| Delegates to the fifth International Gull Meeting in Porto, Portugal were treated to a procession of excellent gulls, including 6 American birds - 2 American Herring Gulls and 3 (possibly 4) Ring-billed Gulls as well as a locally scarce Common Gull and over 150 Little Gulls, Mediterranean Gulls, Black-headed Gulls, Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 2+ Greater Black-backed Gull, also scarce in Portugal, and possibly even a European Herring Gull or 2. This is not to mention a bewildering array of plumages of local and probably visiting Yellow-legged Gulls, including a stunning albino. Some of these birds are pictured on this page. Further pictures will be added in due course Postscript: after examination of Mush Ahmad's video of the 2CY smithsonianus found by Killian Mullarney on the Saturday, the 2CY bird featured here (found by Rik Winters on the Sunday) appears to be a different bird - so there were 3 smithies in Porto! Video-grabs of the 2nd bird (1st 2CY) are also included here.
